Aston Villa go fourth after draw against Manchester United

Saturday, 22 November 08, 07:14 PM

The result is fair, whichever way you look at it. United had the bulk of the possession but we battled and played well at times and we did everything right.

We started in a 4-5-1 formation with Reo-Coker playing at right back, again out of position and Luke Young playing left back, out of position also, but you could say differently, because he has played there in his career before. Still, we did okay, but I think we would have done better with Carlos.

We ended the game playing 4-4-2 as Carew came on for Sidwell with ten minutes to go and just so we're clear on the subject, Sidwell had a poor game. It's not that he made mistakes or did anything wrong, he just didn't seem to get into it.

Still, it's a result that we have must be happy with as we're sitting 4th in the Premier League, a point behind (thanks Bumhug360) Manchester United in 3rd place.

I for one am very happy. Media view, player ratings and blog opinin coming, as you'd expect, tomorrow morning. I'm off for a Coke (Originally a beer).

Pre-season friendly: Walsall 2 Aston Villa 3

Written by Damian Tuesday, 22 July 2008

What can be said about this game that will interest you? Well, I guess the news is that Gareth Barry started, Marlon Harewood was captain and Barry got booed.

Not everyone booed Barry but it was heard by all and that really must be enough for the player to know the feelings of some Aston Villa fans. Pity it ended this way.

Well, the result was, a result. It really doesn't matter what the result was, it was mostly about getting a run out and trying to lift the fitness of some of the players.

For the record, Shaun Maloney scored twice and Wayne Routledge got the winner.

One of the annoying things for me, having listened to it on BBC West Midlands, was having to listen to Jack Woodward in the background. I didn't renew this year for Villa World, mostly because of his annoying voice and now I'm forced to listen to it again when not paying for the privilege.

I know it's not just me and I really don't understand why the club continue with him. Maybe, when the club finally get a new CEO this will be one of the things they look at.

Now, we've got Saturday to look forward to and hopefully a few goals and a convincing display.
